This notice covers the free calculators and other interactive tools published on onsun.app, including any version of a tool embedded on another website. It is separate from, and does not change, the OnSun app Privacy Policy, which continues to govern the OnSun mobile app. Using a tool does not create an account and is not connected to any app account you may have.

The short version

The tools run in your browser. The answers you type stay on your device: we never receive them, and we do not ask you for your name, your email address or your street address. A small number of requests do leave your browser, and they are listed below.

What stays on your device

Everything you enter into a tool, and every result it produces, is held in your browser’s memory and used to run the calculation there. That includes your household details, your appliances, your tariff, your system size and any prices or quotes you type in. None of it is transmitted to us, and none of it is stored on our servers.

What leaves your browser

To draw a map and to fetch weather history, the tools make requests to the services below. Each receives only what it needs to answer, and each will see your device’s IP address, as any web request does. Their own privacy policies apply to what they do with it.

  • Open-Meteo receives the map coordinates you choose, in order to return historical solar radiation and temperature for that point. If you use the place search, it also receives the text you type. Coordinates are rounded before they are sent, and are not tied to any identifier.
  • Nominatim (OpenStreetMap Foundation) receives the text you type in the place search, when a street-level lookup is needed.
  • Esri serves the map imagery, and so receives the map tiles your browser requests as you pan and zoom.
  • unpkg and Google Fonts serve the mapping library and the typeface the page uses.

We do not send any of the figures you enter to any of these services, and we do not receive anything back from them about you.

Location permission

A tool may offer a “use my location” button. If you press it, your browser asks for permission first, and your device’s position is used only to place the map pin. It is not sent to us and not stored. You can decline and tap the map instead, and you can withdraw the permission in your browser settings at any time.

Analytics

The tool pages on onsun.app use Google Analytics to count visits and understand which pages are useful. It records technical and usage information such as your approximate location derived from your IP address, your device and browser, the pages you view and how you reached them. It does not receive the figures you enter into a tool. You can opt out with Google’s browser add-on, or by blocking analytics in your browser.

The embeddable versions of the tools do not include analytics. When a tool is embedded on someone else’s website, that site may run its own analytics, which is governed by that site’s own privacy notice, not this one.

Storage on your device

The tools use your browser’s local storage to remember whether you chose the light or dark theme. That is all we store on your device. It never leaves your browser, and clearing your site data removes it. The tools themselves set no advertising or tracking cookies; Google Analytics sets its own cookies on the onsun.app tool pages, as described above.

If you share a result

Some tools can copy a link that reproduces your answers, so you can return to them or send them to someone. The values are contained in the link itself. We do not store them, but anyone who has the link can see the figures it carries, so share it only with people you intend to.

Children

The tools are intended for adults making decisions about a household energy system, and are not directed at children.

Your rights

Because the tools do not collect or store personal information about you on our systems, we normally hold nothing to give you access to, to correct, or to delete. If you believe we hold information about you, or you have a question about this notice, contact us and we will respond. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights under the Australian Privacy Act, the GDPR, or the CCPA and CPRA, which are set out in more detail in the OnSun app Privacy Policy.

Changes

We may update this notice as the tools change. The current version is always the one published here, and the effective date above tells you when it last changed.
