Power Saver: Solar Sharer App home screen: a countdown to the next free power window, this month’s and all-time savings, and appliance cards sorted by saving per run

Your free power window, counted down

The home screen counts down to the next window and lists what you planned for the week. Each appliance card shows its estimated saving per run.

  • The latest start time for each run, so it finishes inside the window.
  • The delay to set on an appliance timer, for example “set the timer for 6 h 21 m”.
  • A reminder when the window opens, and an optional switch-off reminder ten minutes before it ends.
  • Savings estimates over time

Estimates built on the official Energy Rating data

Appliance figures come from the Australian Government’s Energy Rating dataset: the registrations behind the star labels on dishwashers, washing machines, dryers, air conditioners and pool pumps. Choose your brand and model and the app uses that model’s tested energy per cycle. Not sure which model you have? Pick a Typical model by star rating.

Estimates you can check

Saving per run is the energy per run times your rate.

Nothing to connect

The app helps you build the behaviour required to take advantage of the free energy.

Free electricity hours

A regulated electricity plan with three free hours of electricity every day in the middle of the day. Retailers in New South Wales, south-east Queensland and South Australia have had to offer it since 1 July 2026, and Victoria’s version, the Midday Power Saver, started on 1 October 2026. You opt in through your retailer, you need a smart meter, and up to 24 kWh a day is free during the window.
11 am to 2 pm in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria, and 12 pm to 3 pm in South Australia, every day of the year in local time. Some market plans give four free hours, usually 11 am to 3 pm. Power Saver lets you set whichever window your plan uses.
The ones that use the most energy per run and can wait: an EV charger, a clothes dryer, a pool pump, the dishwasher and the washing machine. Pre-cooling or pre-heating with the air conditioner, and running the oven or a dehumidifier, count too. The app sorts your appliances by estimated saving per run so the biggest wins are obvious, and tells you the latest time to start each one so it finishes inside the window.
No solar, yes smart meter. The free hours exist because the grid has more solar than it can use in the middle of the day, so any household with a smart meter can take the plan, renters included. If you do have rooftop solar, our OnSun app times appliances to your own roof’s forecast instead.
Only if you move enough usage into the window. Regulated Solar Sharer plans charge more for supply and for evening power, and independent analysis puts the break-even at around 6 kWh a day shifted into the free hours. Compare plans on Energy Made Easy or Victorian Energy Compare, then use Power Saver: Solar Sharer App to do the shifting. The app shows an estimate of what each run saves at your rate.
It is free, with no subscription and no account. In this release nothing you enter leaves your phone: no analytics, no tracking and no data sent to us. The only web request the app makes downloads the official star-label images, and the privacy policy describes it.
No. Power Saver: Solar Sharer App is an independent app from Vireo Energy Pty Ltd. “Solar Sharer” in its name describes the offer it is built for. The app is not part of that offer and is not approved by the Australian Government or any retailer.
