These terms cover the free calculators and other interactive tools published on onsun.app, including any version of a tool embedded on another website. They are separate from, and do not change, the OnSun app Terms of Service or the OnSun app Privacy Policy, which continue to govern your use of the OnSun mobile app. Where a tool is embedded in a third-party website, these terms govern the tool itself; they do not govern the site hosting it.
By using a tool you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use the tools.
1. What the tools are
The tools are free educational calculators. They model what a solar system, a home battery, or a change in when you run your appliances might do for a household, using historical weather data and figures you enter yourself. They run in your web browser.
2. The results are estimates, not advice
This is the most important term on this page. Every number a tool produces is a modelled estimate for a typical home in a typical weather year. It is not a prediction of your bill, not a quote, and not a guarantee of any saving, payback period or financial outcome.
In particular:
- The tools are not financial, investment, tax, legal, engineering or energy-procurement advice, and must not be relied on as a substitute for advice from a qualified professional.
- Default prices, installation costs, rebates and tariffs are broad indicative market figures, not offers and not quotes. They change often and may be out of date or wrong for your market.
- Results depend entirely on the assumptions and figures used. Small changes to your tariff, your consumption or your roof can change the answer substantially.
- The models leave out real-world factors that can materially change the outcome. Each tool lists its main exclusions on the tool page itself, and those exclusions form part of these terms.
- Actual generation, consumption, savings and payback will differ, and may differ significantly, from anything a tool shows.
Before spending money on solar panels, a battery, or any other equipment, obtain written quotes and independent professional advice specific to your property, your tariff and your circumstances. Any decision you make remains yours alone.
3. No warranty
The tools are provided “as is” and “as available”. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we make no representation and give no warranty that a tool will be accurate, complete, current, uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or fit for any particular purpose. We may change, suspend, limit or withdraw any tool at any time without notice.
4. Data from third parties
The tools rely on data and services supplied by third parties, including historical weather data, place search and map imagery. We do not control that data and are not responsible for its accuracy or availability. Those providers are credited on each tool, and their own licence terms apply to their data. If a provider is unavailable, a tool may fail or fall back to a modelled approximation, and it will say so when it does.
5. Acceptable use
You may use the tools for your own personal or internal business purposes. You must not:
- use a tool for any unlawful, misleading or deceptive purpose;
- present a tool’s output as a quote, an offer, a guarantee, or as independent certification of any product;
- remove, obscure or alter any branding, attribution, data-source credit or link back to onsun.app;
- scrape, harvest, or make automated or bulk requests through a tool, or use one in a way that places an unreasonable load on our services or on any third-party service a tool relies on;
- copy, decompile, adapt or redistribute the tool code, other than by using the embed method we publish;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of our systems.
6. Embedding a tool on your own site
Some tools offer an embed option. Subject to these terms, we grant you a non-exclusive, revocable, non-transferable licence to embed the tool on a website you control, using the embed code we provide, provided that:
- you keep the credit line that comes with the embed code — the visible line of text beneath the tool that links to our home page at onsun.app — displayed with the tool, in readable text, on every page you embed it on. You may not remove it, hide it, shrink it to the point of being unreadable, point it somewhere other than onsun.app, or stop search engines following it (for example with a “nofollow”, “sponsored” or “ugc” link attribute, or a robots rule that excludes it). The tool itself sits inside an iframe, so this link is the only attribution a reader or a search engine can see, and keeping it is a condition of this licence;
- you embed it unmodified, including its branding and its data-source credits;
- you do not charge for access to the tool itself;
- you do not present it in a way that suggests we endorse you, your site, or any product or service you sell;
- you do not place it alongside content that is unlawful, misleading, or likely to bring us into disrepute;
- you make these terms available to your visitors, for example by keeping the links shown beneath the tool intact.
You remain responsible for your own website, including its own privacy notice and its compliance with the law. We may withdraw this licence at any time, and the embedded tool may stop working if we do.
7. Intellectual property
The tools, their models, their code, their design and their text are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws. Nothing in these terms transfers any ownership to you. Third-party data remains the property of its owners and is used under the licences credited on each tool.
8. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising out of or in connection with your use of, or reliance on, a tool or its output. This includes loss of profit, loss of savings, loss of revenue, loss of opportunity, wasted expenditure, the cost of equipment purchased or not purchased, and any indirect or consequential loss, whether the claim arises in contract, negligence or otherwise, and whether or not the loss was foreseeable.
Where liability cannot lawfully be excluded but can be limited, our total liability for all claims connected with the tools is limited to one hundred Australian dollars (A$100).
Australian consumers: nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot lawfully be excluded. Where the Australian Consumer Law applies and permits us to do so, our liability for a failure to comply with a consumer guarantee in respect of a service is limited to resupplying the service or paying the cost of having it resupplied. If you are a consumer somewhere else, you keep any rights under the mandatory consumer-protection law of your country of residence.
9. Indemnity
If you embed a tool, or use a tool other than as a private individual assessing your own home, you agree to indemnify us against any claim, loss, liability or cost arising from your use of the tool, your breach of these terms, or any representation you make about a tool’s output to another person.
10. Changes
We may update these terms as the tools change. The current version is always the one published on this page, and the effective date above tells you when it last changed. Continuing to use a tool after a change means you accept the updated terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia, and you agree to submit to the jurisdiction of the courts of Victoria. Nothing in this clause deprives you of the protection of any mandatory consumer-protection law of your country of residence, or of any right to bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence where local law gives you that right.
