The short version, as at 5 October 2026 (version 1.0). Everything you enter in the App stays on your phone. There is no account, no sign-up, no analytics, no advertising and no server of ours that receives your data. The App makes one kind of network request, described in section 4, and it carries nothing you typed.
If a future version adds optional online features, this policy will be updated and the effective date above will change before those features are switched on.

1. Who we are
Power Saver: Solar Sharer App (“the App”) is published and operated by Vireo Energy Pty Ltd (ABN 20 670 436 067) (“we”, “us”, “our”), an Australian company based in Victoria, under licence from Adaptive Energy Group Pty Ltd. We also publish the OnSun solar forecast app and this website.
We handle personal information in accordance with the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). We apply the APPs to the App whether or not the Act requires us to in a given year, and this policy is written to meet APP 1.
You can reach us at team@onsun.app.
2. What this policy covers
This policy covers the App on iPhone and Android. It does not cover:
- this website, which has its own Website Privacy Policy;
- the OnSun app, which has its own privacy policy;
- the Apple App Store and Google Play, which handle your download, updates and any ratings or reviews under Apple’s and Google’s own privacy policies. We do not receive your name, email address or payment details from either store;
- your electricity retailer. The App never communicates with your retailer or your meter.
3. What the App stores on your phone
The App keeps the following in its own private storage on your device. On its own, most of it is not personal information. Taken together it can say something about your household routine, so we treat all of it as yours and keep it on the device.
| Information | Where it comes from | Why the App keeps it |
|---|---|---|
| Your appliance list: type, brand and model (if you pick one), star rating, energy per use, run time, any name you give a custom appliance, and the order of your cards | You choose them in the App. Brand and model details come from the catalogue bundled with the App (see Terms, section 9) | To show each appliance, its latest start time and its estimated saving |
| Your schedule: which appliances you plan to run on which days over the next seven days, how long or how many loads, and whether you want a switch-off reminder | You enter it | To show the weekly schedule and set your reminders |
| Your electricity rate (cents per kWh) | You enter it, or the App uses its default | To price each run as an estimated saving |
| Your free power window start and end times | You enter them, or the App uses its default of 11 am to 2 pm | To show the countdown and fit runs inside the window |
| Your savings tally (this month and all time) in dollars and kWh | Calculated by the App from your schedule and rate | To show what your scheduled runs are estimated to have saved |
| Settings and housekeeping: whether you have been asked for notification permission, the date you first used the App, and internal flags that keep the data tidy between versions | Created by the App | To avoid asking you twice and to migrate your data when the App updates |
| Cached files: the Energy Rating star-label images, once downloaded (see section 4) | Downloaded once, then read from your device | So the App does not fetch them again |
This storage is private to the App. Other apps cannot read it, and we cannot read it either: nothing in this list is ever sent to us.
4. What leaves your phone
This version of the App has no server of its own and makes no request to any service we operate. It makes one kind of ordinary web request to a third party, described in full below. It is a standard HTTPS download of a public file. It carries what every web request carries (your device’s public IP address, the time, and a generic user agent that identifies the operating system) and nothing from the list in section 3. The App’s typefaces are built into it, so it does not contact Google Fonts or any other font service.
4.1 Energy Rating star-label images
When an appliance card shows an official Energy Rating star label, the App downloads that label image once from energyrating.gov.au, operated by the Australian Government, and keeps a copy on your device. We do not bundle these images because we do not hold rights to redistribute them. The request names only the generic label being fetched (for example a 4.5-star label), not your appliance, brand or model. The Australian Government’s handling of its web server logs is described in the Energy Rating privacy statement.
4.2 Links you choose to open
Some screens contain links, for example to this website, to energyrating.gov.au, to solarquotes.com.au or to the App Store. Tapping a link opens it in your browser or the store app. From that point the other site’s privacy policy applies. The App does not open any link on its own.
4.3 Reminders
Reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device by the operating system. They do not use a push notification service and nothing about them leaves the device.
4.4 App stores and the operating system
Apple and Google may collect installation, crash and performance information under their own policies and settings on your device. The App contains no crash-reporting or analytics software of its own.
5. What we do not collect
To be explicit, the App does not collect, store or send:
- your name, email address, phone number or any account details (there are no accounts);
- your location, contacts, photos, microphone or camera;
- your electricity retailer, plan, bill, meter readings or usage data;
- an advertising identifier or any identifier used to track you across apps or websites;
- analytics, usage statistics or crash reports to us or to any analytics provider;
- payment information (the App is free and has no in-app purchases).
We do not sell personal information, we do not share it with data brokers or advertisers, and we do not use it for direct marketing. The App shows no advertising and sends no marketing messages.
6. Permissions the App asks for
- Notifications. The App asks for permission the first time you add something to your schedule, not when it is first opened. If you decline, the App still works and simply does not remind you. You can change this later in your device settings.
- Alarms and reminders (Android 14 and later). So that a reminder arrives at the start of your window rather than some minutes later, the App can use exact alarms when your device allows it. On Android 14 and later this is a setting you control; if it is off, reminders are scheduled as inexact alarms and may arrive a little late. We do not prompt you for it.
- Run after restart (Android). The App re-registers your reminders after your phone reboots, so a restart does not silently cancel them.
- Internet access. Used only for the star-label download in section 4 and for links you tap.
The App does not request location, Bluetooth, contacts, camera, microphone, health, motion or background-location permissions.
7. Device backups
Depending on your device settings, Apple iCloud Backup or Android’s backup service may include the App’s storage in your device backup, in the same way as any other app. Those backups are made by Apple or Google under their terms and are controlled by you in your device settings. We have no access to them.
8. How the App uses your information
The App uses the information in section 3 on your device only, to show the countdown to your free power window, to work out the latest start time for each scheduled run, to send your reminders and to show estimated savings. The App makes no automated decision that affects your rights or interests, builds no profile of you and shows no advertising.
9. Disclosure and overseas recipients
We do not disclose your information to anyone because we do not hold it. The star-label download in section 4 is the only occasion on which your device contacts another organisation while using the App, and the Energy Rating website it contacts is operated by the Australian Government. The request includes no personal information from the App beyond the technical details every web request carries.
10. Keeping and deleting your data
Your data stays on your device for as long as you keep it there. You can:
- remove an appliance, a scheduled run or your custom rate inside the App, which deletes it immediately;
- delete everything by uninstalling the App. Uninstalling removes the App’s private storage, including the cached label images, subject to any device backup you keep (section 7).
There is no copy on our servers to delete, so there is nothing further you need to ask us for. If you want to confirm that, email us and we will reply in writing.
11. Security and data breaches
Because your data never leaves your device, its security rests on your device: the operating system keeps the App’s storage private to the App, and your passcode, Face ID, fingerprint or screen lock protects the device. Keep your operating system up to date and use a screen lock.
We hold no personal information from the App, so a security incident on our systems cannot expose it. If a future version holds personal information, we will handle any eligible data breach under the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme in Part IIIC of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), including notifying you and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner where required.
12. Children
The App is a household tool intended for adults. It is not directed at children, and because it collects nothing it cannot knowingly collect information from a child. If you are under 18, please use the App with a parent or guardian’s permission.
13. Access, correction and complaints
Under the APPs you can ask to access and correct the personal information an organisation holds about you. Everything the App holds about you is on your device, where you can see and change it directly. If you ask us, we will confirm in writing what we hold (currently nothing) within 30 days.
If you believe we have handled your personal information in a way that breaches the APPs, email team@onsun.app with “Privacy complaint” in the subject line. We will acknowledge your complaint within 7 days, investigate it, and give you a written response within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
14. App store privacy labels
Consistent with this policy, the App’s listings declare that no data is collected: on the App Store, “Data Not Collected” under App Privacy; on Google Play, “No data collected” and “No data shared” in the Data safety section. The App’s iOS privacy manifest declares no tracking and no collected data types.
15. Future versions
We may add optional online features to a later version, for example an insights feed, or anonymous usage statistics that help us improve the App. If we do, we will:
- update this policy to describe exactly what is sent, to whom and why, before the feature is switched on;
- change the effective date and the version number at the top of this page;
- tell you in the App or in the update notes, and give you a way to keep using the App without the optional feature where that is reasonably possible.
Until then, the statements in sections 3 to 5 describe every version of the App that is available.
16. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always at onsun.app/power-saver/privacy-policy.html, with the effective date at the top. Changes that affect what leaves your phone will be announced as described in section 15. Earlier versions are available on request.
